In 1992, a number of hauliers across the UK collaborated to create the network Palletline, which works to make the pallet transportation industry more efficient. The network is constantly innovating and looking for ways to improve its efficiency and the services it offers its customers. At Castledene we cover the ME20 postcode area and our Managing Director, Nichola Amey, works closely with the network and its members nationwide.
How does Palletline work?
Formed of 96 vetted members, the network operates a hub and spoke model which connects haulage companies with regional sortation hubs, including Palletline’s central hub in Birmingham, to coordinate the collection and delivery of palletised freight across the UK, Ireland and beyond.
The network carefully selects its members, ensuring that they all align with the ethos of keeping customer service at the heart of everything they do.
As a reliable network, delivering high levels of services, Palletline is one of Amazon’s preferred inbound carriers, which comes with a number of benefits for our customers, including reduced risk of financial penalties and fewer admin tasks. You can find out more here.
Increasing efficiency and sustainability
The Palletline network is industry leading in its technology solutions and, through continuously increasing the efficiency of pallet distribution, makes a significant difference to the carbon footprint of the industry.
As a result of the nationwide spread of the network, through freight consolidation and its multi-hub model – enabling members to deliver freight to their local regional hub instead of one central UK hub – Palletline is able to ensure its operations are as efficient as possible. Palletline’s members therefore have higher levels of vehicle capacity utilisation, which are on average 71% in comparison to the 51% in other road freight sectors.
As a result of its increased efficiency, Palletline:
removes 1,000 lorries from the road each year
saves 4.5 million miles per year (in comparison to the single hub model)
saves 7.5 tonnes of CO2 per year
is ISO Accredited 14001:2015 (environmental management) and 50001 (energy usage)
Our MD’s role today
Palletline is still fully shareholder owned by its members, which play a direct role in improving operations and driving the development of the network, ensuring customers receive consistently high service levels.
Our Managing Director, Nichola Amey, is on one of the network’s two steering groups. Focusing on the day-to-day operations on a B2B level, the group looks to solve problems the members face, ensure the network is evolving in line with the times, and seeks to improve efficiency.
As a result, Palletline offers industry first technologies, such as its state-of-the-art tracking system, Palleteyes, which provides customers with advanced levels of visibility. Find out more here.
At Castledene, we are proud to be an award-winning member of a network driving positive change in the industry, for the benefit of not just our customers, but the environment.
